What Does The NARS Rollout Mean For CNE Tracking?

Discover how the Nursing Activity Reporting System improves CME outcomes for nurses.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center recently launched the Nursing Activity Reporting System, otherwise known as NARS. As a web-based portal, NARS supports accredited organizations in reporting learners’ CNE activities to the ANCC every year. Starting in 2018, NARS is required to submit a report to the ANCC to ensure that organizations retain their accredited status. While learning the ins and outs of this new system may be challenging to accredited organizations, the NARS system is intended to streamline the collection and reporting of data and therefore make the accreditation process easier.

One of the major benefits of NARS is the single location it provides for CNE activities and CNE tracking. By offering a single location for these processes, NARS streamlines the processes involved in continuing medical education for nurses.

How Does NARS Simplify CNE Tracking And Data Input?

For organizations that record activity data, it’s important to upload information into NARS as soon as possible. In order to streamline CNE processes, NARS makes it possible to do the following tasks all in a single location:

  1. Add activities on the web-based interface as soon as they are scheduled. If needed, NARS makes it possible to update activity entries with more information as soon as they occur.
  2. Upload batch activities from a spreadsheet or XML file. Through the file upload and export features, the NARS system facilitates tracking CNE credits from XML files.
  3. Input a variety of ANCC activity types, ranging from regularly scheduled series to Journal-based CNE and Performance Improvement.
  4. Record offline and online courses, manuscript review, learning from teaching activities, and online activities. Information recorded through NARS will include the location and date of the activity, as well as how many participants were involved.

As a comprehensive resource for accruing and tracking CNE credits, NARS is designed to meet the specific needs of many different organizations, ranging from those that require material supporting Joint Accreditation to those that must meet the multidimensional needs of nurses, physicians, and pharmacists alike.

To ensure that your organization has success with the NARS system, you may want to consider finding a LMS option that will be compatible with NARS.
